Over the years, the proliferation of renewable energy (solar, wind) and their inherent intermittency pose increasing demands on energy storage technologies, which often suffer from thermal management challenges. The efficient operation and longevity of batteries, capacitors, and other energy storage devices are heavily dependent on effective thermal management strategies. As such, this special issue aims to discuss state of the art, future directions, and priorities regarding in thermal management in energy storage. Topics of interest include thermal modeling and simulation, novel thermal materials and designs, thermal management strategies for different energy storage technologies, and the integration of thermal management with overall energy system optimization. This STOTEN special issue brings together researchers and experts from various disciplines to discuss and address the pressing thermal management issues in energy storage.
